Chrysler Super Bowl Commercial Gives Props to Detroit

Chrysler Corporation shook the world on Sunday with a $6 million, two minute-long Super Bowl tribute to the Motor City known as “Imported from Detroit.”

The tribute was a welcomed surprise for the people of this region who have felt the grips of the economic crisis worse than anyone else.  At a time when legions of folks are rushing out of Michigan in nearly emergency-like situations, it was a much needed pride-boost to those of us who remain.

It hasn’t been noted on a national stage for a long time now, but there IS something special about this place.  For all its faults (and there are many) there is undoubtedly a sense of pride that many native-Detroiters feel about their city.  It may be a pride based on survival; it may be a pride based on toughness; it may be a pride based on innovation and history.  Chances are, it is some combination of all.

This Youtube.com clip of the Eminem-starring commercial already has over 4 million views in four days.  Apparently, we’re not the only ones who enjoyed it.
