This Week in Tiger Stadium History, August 31 – September 6

Reggie Sanders played in 26 games for the Detroit Tigers in 1974, his only season in the big leagues. He spent 12 years in the minor leagues.

September 1, 1974 at Tiger Stadium: Reggie Sanders becomes the first Tiger to homer at The Corner in his first big-league at-bat, connecting off Oakland’s Jim “Catfish” Hunter.

September 3, 1976 at Tiger Stadium: Milwaukee catcher Mike Hegan hits for the cycle.

September 6, 1898 at Bennett Park: The Tigers’ doubleheader with Columbus draws 500 people, the lowest figure ever for a twin bill at The Corner.

September 6, 1905 at Bennett Park: Chicago’s Frank Smith no-hits the Tigers, 8-0.
