On May 18, 1912, the Tigers field a team of replacement players to face the Philadelphia A’s, and lose 24-2. The action is taken by the team in a rare display of solidarity after the suspension of Ty Cobb for a fight the Detroit star had with a fan in New York three days earlier. A man named Aloysius Travers pitches the entire game for the Tigers, surrendering all 24 runs.
