- 2008 On May 26, 2008, Red Wings goalie Chris Osgood records his second consecutive shutout in Game Two of the Stanley Cup finals, as Detroit defeats Pittsburgh, 3-0. The Wings will win the Cup in six
games.
On May 26, 1987, with the Pistons leading the Celtics by one point with six seconds left, Larry Bird steals an inbounds pass from Isiah Thomas, leading to a game-winning layup by Dennis Johnson. The Pistons’ loss gives Boston a 3-2 lead in the series, which the Celtics win in seven games.
On May 26, 1962, as he makes a diving catch in the outfield at Yankee Stadium, Al Kaline breaks his collarbone. The catch preserves the Tigers 2-1 win, but Kaline will miss nearly a month with the injury. At the time, Kaline was having one of his best seasons, leading the league in batting and runs batted in.
